The Yellow Revolution

The Yellow Revolution

YES! I could have written my article about Ex. Pres. Aquino earlier.. immediately after she died but I didnt have the energy and literally, the strength to do it. I was bedridden and hospitalized at home. I was on IV therapy (dextrose) for days. I tried to start a post but nothing came out.. the spontaneity of thoughts was suddenly stricken by 40 degrees of body temp, coughs and colds and other ahini H1N1 symptoms. (nothing serious, though. im fine. thank you)

Anyways, im starting to fear the idea of “sleeping” (for the information of insomniacs and nocturnals, sleeping is when you try to close your eyes and go to a place where you can be yourself or meet your soulmate). No, seriously.. I found out my dad died (some 6 years ago) and a very close friend committed suicide (few months ago) the moment I woke up.. and now this, we may not have any personal encounter, but as a student leader and as a Filipino, I realized that I could not have enjoyed this kind of freedom if it wasnt for her.

She may not be the best president but she actually made a difference not only in the History of the Philippines, Asia but the whole world. She wasnt best known as the 1st woman president in Asia but she was more known for “the most peaceful revolt ever.”

Hillary Clinton gave Mrs. Aquino her personal message.. Barrack Obama gave his personal message.. Imelda Marcos gave hers.. and ERAP gave his.. PGMA gave her scripted and unsincere message and now im giving mine..

“Maam Cory, It would have been a pleasure to meet you in person but at this point it would be impossible.. You left millions of Filipinos crying but you paved way in reliving the democracy, that you started. It may be the worst way to rekindle the passion to fight for the truth but it reminded everybody how important it is to fight for it. Thank you for the gift of trust in these times of uncertainty. Thank you for the gift of hope in these times of despair. Thank you for the gift of faith in these times of doubt.”

YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

“Thank you for the gift of trust in these times of uncertainty. Thank you for the gift of hope in these times of despair. Thank you for the gift of faith in these times of doubt.”

  3. Wow, kaya pala nawala ka ng matagal. The important thing is you’re well now.

Everything worth mentioning about Cory has already been said, and I don’t think I can add any more to that. She was a good person and a leader with a moral backbone. She will definitely be missed.

  4. Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos, many chanting ”Cory! Cory!” and tossing confetti in the air, jammed pavements in Manila to bid farewell to revered former President and democracy icon Corazon Aquino.

Office workers skipped lunch to join students and ordinary residents waiting hours to catch a glimpse of her flag-draped coffin passing slowly through the streets on a flat-bed truck after her death from colon cancer on Saturday.

Television reports described the crowd as the biggest since a million people came out in the 1986 “people power” revolution that ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos and catapulted Aquino to power.

“I was here more than 20 years ago to fight for what I believe was right and moral,” said Norman Hernandez, a lawyer at a mining company in the Makati business district.

Aquino, he said, was inspiring Filipinos after her death to guard against new attacks on democracy. “I thought that was over, but she is inspiring us to carry on the fight.”

Many in the street were clad in yellow, the colour associated with Aquino’s drive to entrench democracy.

Aquino’s family was moving the body of the late president from a school gymnasium to the Manila Cathedral for memorial services late on Tuesday.

As the cortege passed through Makati, well-wishers waved yellow balloons and banners and flashed the “L” hand sign, her trademark during the revolution.

Office workers, many too young to have joined the uprising known as EDSA One, took videos and snapped photos from mobile phones as patriotic songs popular during the revolt blared through loudspeakers.

”I didn’t experience EDSA One,” said Jen David, a publishing house employee. ”I am the EDSA Dos generation. I only heard stories from my parents, so I wanted to feel what was their experience in the 1980s.”

Aquino will be buried on Wednesday beside her assassinated husband Benigno at a private cemetery in southern Manila.

She will be accorded full military honours as a former president and commander-in-chief, but her children have declined state honours.

”The honor should come from the Filipino people,” Aquino’s youngest daughter, Kris, told national television. ”It shouldn’t be a Malacanang decree,” she added, referring to the presidential palace.

may she rest in peace..tita cory..

  6. yeah..tita cory will live forever in our hearts

  7. i agree. yun din ang sinabi ko sa Phil. Consti. subj ko. Pres. Aquino was not the best president of the country (parang Arroyo admin. din yun eh, marami siyang unpopular decisions) but we will not experience the kind of freedom we have now kung nanahimik lang siya ng i-assasinate ang kanyang husband.

for me, she is a modern day hero.

may her soul rest in peace!

  8. nice blog about Tita Cory!

I have to agree that PGMA didn’t gave a sincere with her scripted message but I guess it was because Tita Cory was one of those strong critics in matters of good governance. :)

Is it ok to exchange links?

  9. PGMA gave her scripted and unsincere message

bakit naman may ganon pa, parang hindi naman fair yon.

pero nasan ka na ba, musta na yung pagpunta mo sa ibang bansa?

  15. After all the frenzy and the television specials during her wake, i feel so much more proud to be a Filipino. At the same time, i have a newfound appreciation for her as a Woman, A Mother and a Person. If only more and more of our government leaders would follow her example, then the Philippines would be a better place to live in…
